Snapdrop alternatives that still send peer to peer
Two of the best known "AirDrop in the browser" sites, snapdrop.net and sharedrop.io, are now part of LimeWire and upload files to storage with a 3-day link. If you want the old behaviour, where files go straight from one device to the other and nothing is kept, these are the options as of 2026-10-28.
| Tool | Runs in | Stores files | Across networks | Headless receiver |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snapdrop (snapdrop.me) | Browser | No | No | No |
| PairDrop | Browser | No | Yes (pairing, rooms, TURN) | No |
| LocalSend | Native app | No | No | Yes (official CLI) |
| FilePizza | Browser | No | Yes (link) | No |
| tosstome | Browser, optional CLI | No | Yes (code, relay) | Yes (tosstome listen) |
| snapdrop.net / sharedrop.io | Browser | Yes, 3 days | Yes (link) | No |
How to choose
- Same Wi-Fi, happy to install an app: LocalSend. Works offline, encrypted, no server.
- Same Wi-Fi, browser only: PairDrop or Snapdrop at snapdrop.me.
- Different networks, both devices in front of you: PairDrop (pair once) or tosstome (6-digit code).
- One file, several people, via a link: FilePizza.
- Phone to your own computer, any time, without opening anything on the computer: tosstome with
tosstome listen. - The receiver will pick it up later: a stored link (snapdrop.net, sharedrop.io, or any cloud drive). Peer-to-peer tools cannot do that by design.
