The tosstome command line tool
The browser page is enough for one-off transfers. The command line tool adds an inbox: a computer that is always ready to receive, with a fixed link your phone or any other device can send to. It runs on Linux, macOS and Windows with Node.js 22 or newer.
tosstome listen
tosstome listen [--dir DIR] [--new] [--nearby] [--json] [--server URL]
Keeps this computer's inbox open and saves incoming files to DIR (default ./tosstome-inbox). Prints the inbox link and a QR code. Text messages are printed in the terminal and also saved as .txt files.
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
--dir DIR | Folder for incoming files |
--new | Replace the inbox keys, so the old link stops working |
--nearby | Also appear in the Nearby list of browsers on the same network; those files go to DIR/nearby |
--json | Print one JSON event per line instead of human-readable output |
--server URL | Use a self-hosted server instead of toss2.me |
tosstome url
tosstome url
Prints this computer's inbox link without starting the inbox.
tosstome send
tosstome send [FILE...] [--text TEXT] --to LINK
Sends files, a text message, or both to an inbox link. --text - reads the message from standard input. Quote the link in the shell, because it contains #.
tosstome mcp
tosstome mcp [--dir DIR] [--server URL] [--nearby]
Runs as an MCP server over stdio, so coding agents such as Claude Code or Cursor can receive files and text from your phone and send them back. The inbox starts the first time the agent uses it. See sending files to an AI agent.
Where the keys live
The inbox keys are stored in ~/.config/tosstome/inbox.json. The send key is part of the link; the agent key never leaves that file. The server stores only hashes of both.
Ideas
- Photos from your phone straight into a folder your photo manager watches.
- Scans and receipts from your phone into a paperless or document archive folder.
- Screenshots from your phone straight to your coding agent, with
tosstome mcp. - Build artifacts from a CI job to a test machine, with
tosstome send. - A note to another computer when a long job ends:
make; tosstome send --text "build done" --to "INBOX_LINK". - A Raspberry Pi that accepts files from everyone at home with
--nearby. See phone to server.
Questions
Does it run on Windows?
Yes. It is a Node.js program and runs anywhere Node.js 22 or newer does, including Windows, macOS and Linux.
Can I self-host the server?
Yes. The server is a single Cloudflare Worker with Durable Objects. Point the CLI at it with --server.
Do incoming files overwrite existing ones?
Files are written as .part while they arrive and renamed when complete. File names from senders are reduced to a plain name inside the target folder, so a sender cannot write outside it.
